Go toThe Laboratory for Visual Mathematics. The Lab for Visual Math (Lab4VM) is a collection of people: experimenters, subjects, analysts, and theorists. One person can wear more than one hat. The experiments we pursue are mild ones - no bat nervous systems will be transplanted into humans! Our goal is to understand various aspects of vision, including especially the perception of Lissajous Figures and the ways in which eye movements can be utilized to derive information (by subject and experimenter). An associated quest is to derive better methods to convey mathematical and technical data via visual displays. A third, purely personal interest is to unify the understanding and its use for practical purposes in order to create more harmonious and pleasant computer-human interfaces. Our work is in a field which is largely unexplored but which is becoming recognized as critical in areas such as aerospace, surgery, intensive care, and ordinary office work, where information display and task-oriented lighting must co-exist. A variety of different disciplines are involved, including psychology, physics, neuroscience, and computer science, as well as mathematics and statistics. As a lab assistant, you will have the chance to be part of new research, which may lead to academic papers or even to hardware or software. |
