Green Giant

    The Valley of the Shadow is a "thick" collection of mostly archival materials created during the pre-civil war years in two counties in the Great Valley -- Franklin County, Pennsylvania and Augusta County, Virginia which are "separated by a few hundred miles and the Mason-Dixon Line."   The primary source materials (e.g., letters, diaries, church records, military records, maps, illustrations, newspapers) are foregrounded as the main substance of the site.   

    The Valley site presents information with seeming neutrality.  The narrative structure is multivocal.  The voices are almost entirely from primary sources.
