Unfaithful Excuses


    It is is Hamlet's lack of faith -- in the existence of transcendental justice, in the reality of the Ghost, the truth of its claims, the objectivity and authority of its command -- that prevents him from acting.

    On the other hand, there is plenty of evidence that the Ghost's account is true, especially upon Claudius' confession in Act III.iii.36, et seq.
