Please read and sign the "safety regulations" sheet before attending your first lab session. Give to your instructor the signed portion of this form during the first lab meeting.
1. Wear approved eye protection at all times while in the laboratory. No one will be admitted without it.
2. Wear shoes at all times. No one will be admitted without them.
3. No eating, drinking and smoking in the laboratory at all times.
4. Know where to find and how to use safety and first-aid equipment.
5. Consider all chemicals hazardous unless you are instructed otherwise by your teaching assistant/instructor.
6. Dispose of chemicals as instructed by your teaching assistant.
7. If chemicals come into contact with your skin or eyes, wash immediately with copious amounts of water then consult your laboratory instructor.
8. Never taste anything.
9. Never directly smell anything.
10. Perform inside a hood any reactions involving skin-irritating or dangerous chemicals, or unpleasant odors.
11. Never point a test tube that you are heating at yourself or at your neighbor.
12. Do not perform any unauthorized experiments.
13. Clean up all broken glassware immediately.
14. Always pour acids into water, not water into acid.
15. Notify your instructor immediately in case of an accident
16. Do not use highly flammable reagents near an open flame.
17. Learn the location of fire protection devices
18. Know the locations of eyewash, shower, blanket, fire-extinguisher,
adsorbent, telephone (the emergency number is 7-4357 (7-HELP) ), exits,
fire alarm, and first-aid kit.
