Georgetown's Undergraduate Honor System and Chemistry 003

You have all received information about the Honor System. The following paragraphs are offered to remind you of appropriate academic behavior in our course.

Homework Problems: are set, either by your recitation instructor or by me, to help you prepare for quizzes and exams. They will not be graded. It is in your own interest to try to work these on your own, but if you have difficulty by all means work with friends or seek help from us. I will post solutions to the homework (if they are not available in the back of the textbook) before each exam.

Recitation Quizzes: These are to be approached like any exam. The answers must be your own, with no assistance from notes or other students. Your recitation instructor will report any suspected academic dishonesty.

Course Exams: All exams are "closed book" and no additional material may be consulted (other than that provided with the examination sheet). Graded examinations (other than the Final Exam) will be returned to each student. Although requests for regrading based on missed answers or other graders' errors will be honored, please note that exam booklets may have been photocopied before they were returned.

Final exam booklets are not returned, but students can request an appointment to review their Final exam with their recitation instructor or with me at the beginning of the Spring Semester.

Laboratory: Unless explicitly otherwise instructed, all experimental work, write-ups, calculations, and answers to questions must be your own work.

"Dry-labbing", i.e. fabrication of results of an experiment, whether or not you actually carried out that experiment in the laboratory, is considered by all scientists to be a very serious example of academic dishonesty and will be reported to the Honor Council
