Last updated Jan. 10 Instructor: Paul Kainen, 205 Reiss, tel. 72703; kainen@georgetown.edu; Class location: Reiss 281 (MWF) Text is Introduction to Graph Theory (2nd Edition) by D. B. West. We will cover portions of Chapters 1-7; details to be adjusted shortly.
Blommer Library in Reiss Science Building has some graph theory books on reserve and I will add a few more, including a copy of our text. Homework is due on the day specified and won't be accepted late; if you can't be in class, please have a classmate hand it in for you.
There will be four exams - all of equal weight. They are scheduled 7:30 - 9:30 pm
Instead of a final, a paper (or other project) is required. I'll discuss this in class later. Papers or projects are due May 7; late submissions may not be accepted.
There will be at least one quiz most weeks (brief, multiple choice, designed to insure that you keep up with the reading). Quizzes will not be announced in advance and no make ups are permitted, but I will use an average of the best eight quiz grades to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. However, since I wouldn't want someone who aces the first eight to be able to skip the rest of class, I'll use a formula to ensure that the good quizzes need to be spread out ;-)
Grades will be based on the following:
