Marinus

Marinus (PLRE II: p. 724) is known only as comes rei militaris at the time referred to in ep. 151. He opposed Heraclian's invasion in Italy and pursued him back to Africa (Orosius and Jordanes recount these events). Orosius, fawning disciple of Augustine, reports (7.42.17) that he fell out of favor as a result of his execution of Marcellinus and Apringius ('continuo revocatus ex Africa factusque privatus vel ad poenam vel ad paenitentiam conscientiae suae dimissus est'), but that may be an optimistic overreading of a more mundane end to a modestly successful career.
