Late Papers Policy
When is a paper late?
- All three papers are due at a definite (posted) time and must be submitted by turnitin.com. If your TA requests one, you must also bring a hard copy (print-out) of the paper to him or her.
- If you have an excused absence for that week (athletic travel or other approved conflict), you may make alternative arrangements with your T.A. to deliver your print-out. Such an excused absence does not extend the due date for submission by turnitin.com.
- Athletes: having to travel for a competition late in the week a paper is due does not extend the deadline. Paper assignments are posted at least two weeks in advance. Plan ahead! If you will be traveling extensively – say for most of a week – speak with me or your T.A. and we'll make an accommodation.
- Do not skip section or arrive late in order to print the paper out. If something comes up that delays printing, go to section and make arrangements with your T.A. to get him or her a copy as soon as is practicable.
, I do not accept late papers at all, .
What happens if your paper is late?
That depends on which assignment it is. If it is the third paper, I will not accept it and you will receive no credit for it.
For the first two papers, it is your responsibility to contact your section leader and make arrangements to turn the paper in. For each day late, your grade will be reduced by one step (A to A-, e.g.). Weekends count as a single day.
What counts as a good excuse?
The obvious ones count: medical exigencies, family emergencies, funerals, and weddings. Be prepared to prove that these conditions exist. I have been known to accept other excuses, but only rarely. I can't write an infallible rule in advance, so please contact me (or your section leader) as soon as is practical.
For the third paper, if a situation like this arises, you will need to take an incomplete. Please contact your dean's office, explain the situation, and apply for an incomplete.
