+++++++ COURSE PORTFOLIO +++++++
American Literary Traditions (ENGL 210)
Randy Bass (Georgetown University)
As a hypertext course portfolio, this case study can be read in multiple ways, with multiple beginnings and means to navigate.
A good place to begin is the EXECUTIVE SUMMARY, which briefly lays out my reasons for writing the portfolio and choosing this course, and gives an outline of the goals, design, and results of the course. The summary is also an overview of all the major hyperlinked sections.
The portfolio narrative itself begins with the COVER LETTER which gives more detail on the nature of the portfolio and my rationale.
Or, you can use the portfolio INDEX, which serves as a "table of contents" for the electronic version of this portofolio.
The actual discussion of the course's aims, my pedagogical intentions, and its design begins with the section called ARGUMENT.
As you move through the portfolio, you can always use the NAVIGATION BAR at the bottom of each page to find your way around.
The "course portfolio" is a relatively new genre for teaching reflection, being developed by faculty around the country, especially in conjunction with the Course Portfolio Project sponsored by the American Association for Higher Education and the Pew Charitable Trusts.
The intent of publishing a course portfolio on the World Wide Web is to make publicly available reflections about teaching. I welcome any comments, questions, or critiques of the portfolio. Send comments to Randy Bass (Georgetown University).
