Rosalie A. Dance

Rosalie A. Dance,  teaches mathematics at the University of the Virgin Islands. She received her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction (Mathematics) from the University of Maryland, College Park; her Bachelors and Masters degrees are in Mathematics, from Dickinson College and from Boston College, respectively. Her major research interest is in the culture of mathematics classrooms and the ways in which classroom cultures influence students' success. Her association with Dr. Sandefur began as a participant in an NSF-funded Teacher Enhancement institute focused on mathematical modeling. She became a co-principal investigator in that project, and continued as co-investigator on two subsequent NSF grants with him. She has taught mathematics and led teacher training institutes in Tanzania, the United States, Canada, and The Gambia. She has been a visiting scholar at the Shell Centre for Mathematics Education at Nottingham University in England and a visiting professor at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Currently, she is working to develop mathematics investigations in contexts relevant to the Caribbean islands.
