Algerian landscapes

These pictures were taken during our day's tour of eastern Algeria, from Annaba to Souk Ahras to Mdaourouch and return.

The landscapes between Annaba and Souk Ahras as you came up into the mountains are strongly reminiscent of other landscapes on the north shores of the Mediterranean. The very large image behind this thumbnail comes from S. Ferdi, Augustin: de retour en Afrique (Fribourg 2001)

From Souk Ahras up to Mdaourouch the landscape turns rapidly to high grasslands

These donkeys undoubtedly bear DNA shared with the original models for Apuleius' "golden ass"
