Forum Planned for 1989 MLA Convention

Professor Stephen Sumida of Washington State University, the current chair of MLA's Committee on the Literatures and Languages of America (CLLA) indicates that CLLA is proposing a forum for 1989 MLA convention entitled "The Status of Minority Literatures in the Profession: Retrospective and Prospective" as well as four accompanying workshops: "The Politics of Institutionalization"; "The Emerging Canons"; "Directions in Research"; and "The Scholar, the Writer and the Community."

In addition, a major conference on the status of minority literatures in the profession is being planned for 1991. ANYONE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING SHOULD CONTACT EITHER PROFESSOR SUMIDA (WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY) OR PROFESSOR ANDREW WIGET (NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY).
