The procedures performed in the Carnosine in GWI study are very close to what is shown in the videos below. The protocols of the procedures in the Carnosine in GWI may be slightly different and will be thoroughly outlined in the informed consent that you will be reviewing and signing. The majority of YouTube videos are not accurate in demonstrating medical procedures, therefore the following videos have been carefully selected by our research group to best demonstrate the different components of our experiments.

Notes about fMRI


  1. 1)Our Georgetown facility also utilizes a Siemens 3T MRI system. The machine and room layout in the video is very similar to what you will see at Georgetown.


  1. 2)The Siemens 3T MRI provide image results in a shorter time and offer patients a more comfortable, less claustrophobic experience.


  1. 3)Please inform us if you are claustrophobic, have any embedded metal items, and/or have tattoos.


  1. 4)Total scan time will take approximately 1 hour.


  1. 5)Before you are placed in the actual scanner, you will be placed in a mock scanner to test for fit and comfort.
